The three tawny owl chicks have grown rapidly and are getting curious about the world outside their box. Typically they remain in the nest for 25 – 30 days before moving out onto nearby branches, an act called ‘branching’, so it won’t be long before they leave their natal home. However, they won’t actually fly until approximately 32 -37 days old and will still be dependant on their parents feeding them for a further three months.
Both clutches of blue tit eggs are hatching and the parents have started the frenetic coming and going of feeding all those hungry mouths.
Meanwhile, the kestrels went on to lay 5 eggs. Both parents have ben incubating the eggs and they should start hatching later next week.
The smaller male has a more uniform coloured head and back with flecks.
The female is much more streaky on her back and head.
We have a couple of new characters that are joining the cast - a pair of sparrows have started building their nest of straw and grass in another box.
You can follow the progress of all our nest cam stars live on the TV in our Visitor Centre.
