We continue to develop our events programme and kicked off the year with a New Years Day walk around Medmerry with our Warden. A good number of hardy souls were up out and early in good spirits, despite the previous night’s festivities. Their resilience was rewarded with not-so common gulls, spotted redshank, a kingfisher, yellowhammers and best of all, a raven, amongst numerous other species.
Over the last couple of months you may have come across our volunteer guides at various points around both Pagham Harbour and Medmerry reserves. This month Tony, Larry and Peter were in the Ferry Pool hide armed with scopes, informing (and entertaining) anyone that popped by who wanted to know what they were looking at. Not sure who enjoys it more – our visitors or our volunteers themselves!
Two very cheerful and obliging volunteer guides!
Next month you’ll find them in Church Norton Hide on Saturday 14 February between 11am and 2pm. They extend a very warm welcome to all so be sure to pop in and say hello if you’re down there.
This week lots of little (and some large) fingers got sticky and creative making bird feeders in preparation for Big Garden Bird Watch.
The birds will love these!
Don’t forget to do your count on Saturday 30 or Sunday 31January. For more information on how go to www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch
We have lots more family events coming up, particularly around half-term and Easter. Check our website for details or pick up a Family Events leaflet from our Visitor Centre.
Other events planned for spring include Astronomy Night, Wildlife Photography and Water Vole Workshops and Dawn Chorus Walk. These events fill up very quickly so please remember to book early to avoid disappointment.
