Announcing a new event at RSPB Pagham Harbour

Are you aged between 8 and 12? If yes then why not come out and have an exciting day exploring your local nature reserve and find out about the new club we are opening as well as trying out some activities.

Mud dipping : What lurks in the muddy depths of the old harbour?

Be a Bird Detective : Find out some of the birds the drop in for a meal and find out what is a Dunlin? and why some birds have strange beaks and long legs.

Please wear warm clothing, waterproof coat and shoes suitable for walking around wet and muddy paths. You must come with an adult so they can register you for this event!

FAQ regarding our new Wildlife Explorer Club

  • What is the RSPB Wildlife Explorer Club? : It is the junior membership of the RSPB for children between the ages of 8 to 12.Though our club comes under the same name, we are open to children who do not belong to the RSPB. It is really a youth group meeting regularly, under the guidance of an RSPB approved volunteer, to enjoy wildlife and conservation activities
  • When is it? : The last Saturday of every month, except December. time 2 to 4pm
  • How much will it cost? : For the launch day of 30th November, it is free of charge. For further sessions a nominal charge of £2.00 if already a member of the RSPB Junior Wildlife Explorers or £2.50 if not a member per session.
  • Do I have to par in a lump sum? : No. Just pay for sessions that your child wishes to attend on the day.
  • Do the parents have to stay? : It is not expected that parents will stay although this will be at the club leaders discretion. We do ask that parents fill in a registration form on the first session and  and that they come physically to the club room when picking up their child.
  • Is the club just about birds? : No. We will be exploring all kinds of wildlife and the natural environment using the scientific method of investigation, observation and creative work. There will be a mixture of activities each month. A programme of activities will be available to take away on launch day.
  • What do children need to wear and bring? : Outdoor clothes suitable for the season and get dirty, as we will be going outside regardless of the weather. In Winter- a water proof coat, a warm hat and clothes, wellies or flat walking shoes such as trainers and long trousers. In Summer- sun hats, long sleeved tops, long trousers and sun block. Children do not need to bring anything else. A light snack of a drink and biscuit will be provided.
