Starting at 5am this Sunday (11th May), the Otmoor Dawn Chorus walk will provide an ideal opportunity to see and more importantly hear nature's orchestra, as our song birds sing in the new day. Please phone the office if you'd like to book a place on the walk 01865 351163.

I was carrying out a bird survey early this morning and heard loads of birds in full song as they let each other know that they are still here. Sedge warblers sang from scrubby bushes next to the ditches, a garden warbler sang from a bramble bush, willow warblers and chiffchaffs sang from the willow trees, blackcaps, blackbirds, yellowhammers, a bullfinch, dunnocks, linnets, wrens (tiny but very noisy!) and song thrushes all joined in. Swallows and house martins flew overheard and I saw a wheatear and a whinchat, refuelling on Otmoor before continuing their journeys northwards. Hares were bounding around and a small herd of roe deer pronked off across the field. It was a great morning and as long as the weather stays nice (fingers crossed) then the Dawn Chorus walk should be just as good.
