Every evening for the last week or so I have visited the Hill to listen for the iconic songster to sing his beautiful song and this evening I was rewarded with just that. Sitting on the bench at the hill veiwpoint at 7 o'clock I was just about to leave when a male sang right behind me. No matter how many times I hear it, it's always magical, no more so than when it's the first of the season.
To put this into perspective, they only sing for six weeks or so (mid-April to the end of May) meaning we can't hear them for ten and a half months out of the year. Which means listening to the first and each and every subsequent hearing pretty special.
Join me and other members of RSPB local group for our first (large group gathering) Nightingale Walk at RSPB Northward Hill on the 17th of May 2021, meeting in the car-park at 7pm for a walk lasting about one and a half to two hours.
You will hear Nightingale, but I can't guarantee you'll see one and the best of it all, it's free.
The North Kent Marshes are a very special area and worth preserving at all cost.
