The widespread but rare beetle known as a Musk Beetle was spotted this week at Rye Street by the sharp-eyed Frank Cackett. It is one of the so-called longhorn beetles and due to its large size and colouration, a coppery or greenish metallic tint, with a good view, it is pretty unmistakable.
So called for its' ability to produce a not unpleasant smell when threatened, a fact reflected in its' Latin name, Aromia moschata.
Thanks to Frank for the information and images.
The North Kent Marshes are a very special area and worth preserving at all cost.
