I have to say I never tire of the sight of Goldfinches and their tinkling song, they are singing from the Silver Birch in my postage stamp garden as I write.

Today my daily sojourn to RSPB Northward Hill had to wait until after 6pm. As usual there was always a pleasant surprise on the drive in. A Buzzard sitting atop a telegraph pole hoping for an easy meal of an unwary young rabbit or roadkill at the behest of a visiting car. A Green or Great Spotted Woodpecker on the poles or even a Sparrowhawk ever watchful of the finches in the brambles.

This evening Corvids were drifting overhead toward their roost in the Sanctuary.

There were a lot of invertbrate larvae around, mainly Ladybird larva, mostly being 7-spot Ladybird (Coccinella septempunctata) also a lot of Harlequin Ladybird larva (Harmonia axyridis).

It was nice to see Reed Warbler going back and forth feeding young and I couldn't help wondering how many were feeding a Cuckoo!

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

The North Kent Marshes are a very special area and worth preserving at all cost.
