Today was a beautifully sunny, but cold morning on the reserve here at RSBP Northward Hill and the real start back this week for most. Christmas and New Year are over for another year and the kids are back at school.

There are plenty of thing to see, including the stunning Fieldfares and the equally fantastic Redwing, two birds of a feather that nearly always flock together. Both can be fairly difficult to get close to for a really good view but this morning one remained in a bush as I pulled up reminding me that when only a few yards away they really are superb.

Thanks to Stephen Young for this image of a Redwing.

The North Kent Marshes are a very special area and worth preserving at all cost.
