Yesterday was the annual fete at Cliffe and RSPB Medway local group was there with a stand. This included making and colouring masks for the children, they could also make colourful dragonflies. Many children came to the stand and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

It was also an ideal opportunity to engage with the parents and other adults re the work of the RSPB and Cliffe and Northward Hill reserves.

Part of the display was being able to explain to members of the public about the Lodge Hill development and how important it is to oppose the destruction of this Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Although it was a fun day it was tinged with sadness on the recent passing of Gill Moore, one of the three stalwarts of the No Cliffe Airport campaign, a decade or so ago and she would no doubt have been involved more and more in the Lodge Hill issue.

It was touching to see a display of photographs celebrating her life and work in a quiet corner of the church.

Medway local group would like to thank the organisers and especially Joan Darwell for the invite.

The North Kent Marshes are a very special area and worth preserving at all cost.
