Recent sightings from 30 May to 04 June 2018

There has been a real baby boom as of late and especially the young ones of our waterfowl are very popular with our visitors and staff alike. Some of our moorhens have up to 6 chicks and also the little grebe on the scrape can be spotted from our café feeding its 2 remaining chicks. There are several Canada goose families around with up to 4 goslings and pochard and mute swans are busy feeding as well. The bittern is still active and can be spotted flying across the reserve and loads of dragonflies (like the four spotted chaser), damselflies, butterflies and moths are filling the air. This week also brown-banded carder bee, long-horned bees and shrill carder bees have been spotted and beautiful orchids, including the spectacular bee orchids, can be found on the reserve.

Please note that we take our recent sightings list from the visitor sightings board that anyone can contribute to. This is great as everyone can get involved, but obviously can lead to potential errors too as they aren’t always verified! We try to keep this list as accurate as possible but if you see something unusual feel free to comment here!
