The RSPB visitor centre at the Mull of Galloway opened last Friday- just in time for Easter. With an eggciting Easter egg hunt planned alongside other fun activities ran by the Mull of Galloway Trust, it was set to be an enjoyable weekend. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be with strong winds and wild weather however that didn’t stop us from enjoying ourselves anyway! Over 100 people visited the centre on Easter Sunday, purchasing local handmade crafts and chatting to the RSPB staff about the amazing seabirds nestling on the cliffs.

It’s been an exciting week for wildlife with daily sightings of Harbour Porpoise from the lighthouse and the foghorn. An amazing 36 porpoise were recording yesterday (31.03.16) feeding along the tidal races off Lagvag Point. When visiting the Mull of Galloway, ask a member of staff to highlight the best “porpoise spotting” locations along the cliffs.

It’s not just the RSPB staff that has returned to the Mull of Galloway- the seabirds are also back! The cliffs are full of guillemots, razorbills, shags and kittiwakes- reinforcing their pair bonds as the breeding season begins. Slowly but surely spring is on its way with sightings of Wheatears, Sand Martins, House Martins and Swallows over the last few days!
