It's been dry for a while now and the route to the wetlands and the wetland paths are much firmer. But still bring your walking boots.
We have been hearing the calls of herring gulls – sounds of the seaside, rooks – sounds of the woods, dunnocks screeching in chase mode, blue tits were darting about.
We have been hearing several chiffchaffs along the bridleway and black-headed gulls over the wetlands.
The water rail was under the feeder at mid-day. Woodcock in the play meadow. Barn owls in the play meadow between 6 and 7am.
Our visitors and volunteer wardens have told us about house martins, sand martins, swallows flying over.
Wheatear flying through. Skylark calling. Marsh harrier in the southern cow meadow (looking for breakfast and just passing through) .
There are cormorant, redshank, greylags, oysterctacher, teal, goldeneye, goosander, shoveler, shelduck, little egret, buzzard and kestrel about.
And the bearded tit at Dosthill (stayed for 3 days).
