Once again, I got over excited when I saw how many photos there were on the camera card and, once again, I was disappointed not to find an otter. However, I did capture pheasant, blackbird, dunnock, rabbit, deer, badger:
and the, inevitable, squirrel.
There were shots of male and female blackbirds collecting nesting material, which was nice to see. The female was amazingly camouflaged even with a bill full of bits.
I only got a good shot of the rabbit’s backside but the muntjac were their usual photogenic selves. There were only female present this time.
I came across quite a large area with these lovely scarlet elfcup fungi whilst setting up one of the cameras.
The heronry is really busy at the moment and I was delighted to see some fluffy little heads in one of the nests last week (all go aaahhh!, so sweet). I watched one of the parents fly in and feed them.
This wonderful sunshine is bringing out the butterflies - commas, peacocks, small tortoiseshell, and there are quite a lot of queen bumblebees around looking for nests.
Walking through the woodland it's lovely to see flowers coming out everywhere; lesser celandine is forming small carpets here and there; there is a beautiful patch of white wood anemones near the bench along the woodland walk; it won't be long till the bluebells are out; the ramsons (wild garlic) are forming large, lush, green carpets with their foliage.
Mother Nature is very busy at the moment!!!
