What a lovely couple of days we’ve had with some real heat in the sunshine. It’s lovely to see all the new growth pushing through the leaf litter in the woods and to hear the birds “twitterpating” (from Bambi, for those who’ve not seen it).

It never ceases to amaze me as to how some creatures survive over winter. I found this caterpillar attached to the underside of a piece of garden fleece that was covering some plants in my garden. With some of the frosts we’ve had I would have thought he would freeze but the fleece, obviously, provided sufficient cover.

I’ve left him alone as I think he was about to pupate. I’m still trying to identify the species but I think it’s a moth.

The footpath through canal meadow is finished so I’ve cleared the “robin” bridge of the layers of mud, it looks much nicer, the path and the bridge.

I’m still moving the motion sensor camera around the reserve trying to find an otter; finding plenty of pheasants, muntjac and squirrels. The squirrels really hogged the limelight at this site with over three quarters of the pictures showing the Nutkins enjoying themselves.

I, obviously, moved the location of the camera after this.  I had noticed a well used animal track not far from the water so set up the camera to catch movement along the track.

I may not have found an otter but I am so excited to have found a badger!!!!

He passed by the camera several times during the night from 9.30 pm with the last pass at 5.45 am. I’m still looking closely at the pictures to see if it’s the same individual or not.
