Hi RSPB Mersehead community,

As well as the distinctive sound of thousands of barnacle geese on the reserve there are a few other arrivals telling us that winter has arrived; bramblings and waxwings. As well as recent sightings of a male hen harrier and tree sparrows it's a good time to get the binoculars out and visit Mersehead! If you're considering a new pair of binoculars or a new 'scope the annual optics event is happening on Saturday 24th - Sunday 25th November from 10am-4pm. Experts are on hand to offer advice and you can try before you buy in the Visitor Centre. Gifts and Christmas goods will also be on sale and there will be refreshments available.

Our sightings list from today (Wednesday 14th November):
3675 barnacle geese, 15 shelduck, 44 wigeon, 4 gadwall, 516 teal, 62 mallard, 252 pintail, 14 shoveler, 11 goldeneye, 4 red breasted merganser, 1 scaup, 760 oystercatcher, 227 lapwing, 46 curlew, 3 tufted duck, 43 canada geese and 3 greylag geese.

Bye for now,
Liz
