What’s about 14th - 20th May 2016

With 29 lapwing pairs counted across the site, chicks continue to be seen across the reserve, although somewhat harder to spot as the grasses sedges and rushes have shot up in growth very fast in the last week or so. Oystercatcher chicks and moorhen chicks have been seen regularly from the visitor centre. Also the usual great display of birds on the feeder, yellowhammers, tree sparrow, dunnock, green finches, blue tits, house sparrows, the resident pheasants and redpoll.

But its not just small fluffy downy chicks that are to be seen. The reserve is enjoying the company of numerous hares – Eric reported four boxing on Friday morning.

There’s plenty of other birds to see as well this week with a female Marsh Harrier reported from the Media Hide. Redpoll, white throats, swallows, a goldcrest, wheatear, stonechat, reed-bunting, reed and sedge warblers all view-able from the trails or hides.
