A birds eye view of parts of Mersehead, as we wait for the first of our summer visitors to arrive this is probably what they see on arrival!

Speaking of which things do appear to be late this year, nevertheless skylarks are singing in abundance across the merse with over 50 birds singing and displaying, similarly with the lapwing although smaller numbers (up to 8 pairs) tumbling across the fields in front of the visitor centre during the week. Other highlights this week include goldeneye and  hen harrier seen from the Media hide over several days.

Pintail, teal wigeon, gadwell mute swan, shoveler snipe  tufted duck, barnacle geese, buzzard and golden plover have been viewed daily from both hides. Along the trails and hedge rows, feeders  - birds of note this week were: reed buntings, 1 gold crest , several yellow hammers, 4 tree sparrows, redwings, song thrush and stone chat.   And lastly - several sightings of badgers, stoats (both near the gardens)and hares in the fields
