A Cuckoo heralded the day at the old sandworks and then Sutton's Marsh at 8.30 am then an Osprey flew over Sandgrounders Hide at 11. Probably a migrant heading north but dare one hope it was the one spotted earlier this month staking out the area. These highlights were followed by reports of an Alpine Swift flying over. Also spotted were 3 Whimbrel, a pair of Garganey on Rimmer's Marsh, 360 Black-tailed Godwits, and a male Pintail, A pair of Yellow wagtails were feeding among the cattle on Sutton's Marsh and about 250 Swifts were feeding over the reserve.
Afternoon sightings included 3 Whinchats in the brambles next to Rainfords Lagoon, 3 Wheatears near the sandworks, a Curlew Sandpiper with about 90 Dunlin on Rimmer's Marsh and the pair of Garganey provided migration interest.
