Marazion Marsh appears to be one of the top sites for Citrine Wagtails in the south west so we were not altogether surprised when one turned up on 23rd August. It stayed 3 days (it may still be here but wasn't seen yesterday) and was our sixth record. Apart from an adult 16th-21st May 2002 all have been immature birds and this year's arrival is a classic date for this Asian species. Previous records have been 19 Sept 1993, 14-17 Sept 1999, 31 Aug-16 Sept 2004 and 29 Aug-29 Sept 2009. Thanks to a host of volunteers we were able to set mist nets in the marsh for much of August in the hope of finding an Aquatic Warbler. Unfortunately the bird itself didn't oblige and although it is not too late for one to appear, we have runout of volunteers! Neither Jen Parker or I are qualified to undertake this so if anyone out there feels they may be able to put in a day or two for us please get in touch.
