Yesterday’s highlight (and the highlight of the year so far!) was a short-eared owl just outside the visitor centre. The bird was first spotted at around lunchtime, sat on the ground by the edge of the pool, giving fantastic close up views. The view improved even more when it helpfully moved to sit on a fencepost right outside the centre!
The owl was around all afternoon yesterday, allowing us to have amazing views of it hunting, flying past and perching on various posts nearby the centre. I think the photos below show just how good the views we had were...
The owl was seen first thing this morning, but has proved to be very elusive so far today.
Year list update...the grand total now stands at 81, with skylark, meadow pipit and short-eared owl being the new additions.
