Here are some sightings from the Loch of Strathbeg reserve from the last fortnight. Dates shown are the most recent recorded for each species:

- Marsh harrier (15/09/2021) - birds seen regularly on reserve

- lapwing (15/09/2021) - flock of up to 400 birds

- Pink-footed geese (14/09/2021) - 13 birds, first few back 

- Common crane (14/09/2021) - 3 birds (one adult + 2 juveniles) 

- Ringed plover (13/09/2021) - 8 birds on lagoon

-Dunlin (13/09/2021) - 12 birds on lagoon

- Greenshank (13/09/2021) 

- Ruff (13/09/2021) - Up to 5 birds

- Black-tailed godwit  (12/09/2021) - 7 birds seen

Duck and swan numbers are starting to creep up as we head further into September.  Here are some numbers from our Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS) on Monday (13/09/2021):

- Mute Swan - 252 

- Whooper Swan - 2

- Mallard - 223 

- Wigeon -  220 

- Teal - 60 

- Tufted duck - 32

- Goldeneye - 4
