Competition rules:  

  1. This competition is open to all UK residents, except for any employee of or person directly connected with the RSPB or a Save Our Magnificent Meadows partner organisation and their immediate family members. 
  2. By entering the competition applicants or their parents/legal guardians agree to these Rules and the Terms and Conditions
  3. Applicants under 18 must get consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) before entering the competition and by entering guarantee that such consent has been obtained. The parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of applicants under 18 agree to the Rules and Terms and Conditions on behalf of the applicants. Proof of age may be required.
  4. The competition is free to enter and no purchase is necessary.
  5. Applicants may enter the competition by emailing or sending a poem written in Doric to magnificentmeadows@rspb.org.uk or to Meadows Doric Poetry Competition, RSPB Scotland Loch of Strathbeg, Crimond, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire AB43 8QN. Each applicant may submit up to three poems and each poem must have a title. Poems are to be judged anonymously so the applicant’s name, address, or any other identifying details must not appear on the poem itself, although full details should accompany the poem separately.
  6. Poems must be the original work of the applicant and must not have been published or self-published (including on any website or social media site) or broadcast.
  7. The RSPB must receive entries by midnight on 30 May 2016. Any entry which is late, incomplete or inappropriate will be deemed invalid at the discretion of the RSPB.
  8. The RSPB accepts no responsibility for any technical failure, malfunction or any other problem with any server, internet access system, postal service or otherwise which may result in any entry being lost, corrupted or not properly registered, delivered or recorded.
  9. Please note no corrections can be made to poems after they have been entered and entries cannot be returned. Full copyright title remains with the author/owner of any entries. Please see the full Terms and Conditions at http://bit.ly/23I6arM.
  10. The judges shall assess the entries and a first, second and third place winner will be selected in each age category. The judge’s decision is final and neither they nor the organisers will enter into any correspondence regarding the results.
  11. The first, second and third place winners in each age category shall have the opportunity to perform their poem at the Meadows Celebration on 2 July 2016 at the Loch of Strathbeg.  First, second and third place winners in each age category will also receive a book of poetry – full details are available on the RSPB Loch of Strathbeg Blog [http://bit.ly/23I6arM].
    1. The winners will be notified in writing using the contact details provided at entry within 14 days of a decision being made and will be asked whether they will attend the Meadows Celebration Event. If a winner does not respond to the RSPB by 24 June 2016, then they will forfeit their place to perform at the Meadows Celebration and their poem may be read at the Meadows Celebration by someone else. If a winner does not respond to the RSPB within 30 days of being notified, then they will also forfeit their prize. There is no obligation for winners to attend or perform at the Meadows Celebration.
    2. The prizes are non-exchangeable, non-refundable and no cash alternative is offered.
    3. After prize winners have been notified, lists of the prize winners will be published on the RSPB Loch of Strathbeg Blog and RSPB Aberdeen and North East Scotland Facebook page.
    4. The RSPB reserves the right to refuse entry or to award a prize to anyone in breach of the Rules or the Terms and Conditions or the spirit of the Rules or Terms and Conditions.

 

Terms and Conditions 

  1. By submitting your entry to the RSPB, you agree to be legally bound by the Rules and these Terms and Conditions.
  2. Any entry must be your original work and it must not infringe the rights of third parties including copyright, trade mark, trade secrets, privacy, publicity, personal or proprietary rights. In addition, all entries must be produced legally without trespassing on any land and no wildlife or habitats should be harmed, put at risk or unduly disturbed in the process of creating your entry.
  3. Full copyright title shall be retained by the author of any entries. By submitting any entry to the RSPB (including any text, photographs, graphics, video or audio) you agree to grant RSPB a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sub-licensable right and worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, display and exercise all publicity rights with respect to your entry, and/or to incorporate your entry in other works, in any media now known or later developed for the full term of any rights that may exist in your entry, and in accordance with privacy restrictions set out in the RSPB’s Privacy Policy.
  4. By submitting an entry, you agree to waive any moral rights contained in your entry. Any entry you provide shall be non-confidential.
  5. By submitting any entry, you agree the RSPB may use the material for any purpose and in any way it chooses, including, but not limited to, marketing, publicity, advertising and presentations.
  6. The RSPB (including its subsidiaries, agents or distributors) shall not be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage or for any costs, claims or demands of any nature whatsoever arising directly or indirectly out of the use of your entry or any part thereof.
  7. Insofar as is permitted by law, the RSPB (including its subsidiaries, agents or distributors) will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize, except where it is caused by the negligence of the RSPB, its subsidiaries, agents or distributors or that of their employees.  Your statutory rights are not affected.
  8. You agree to indemnify the RSPB (and its subsidiaries) against any claim from any third party for any breach of the Rules or these Terms and Conditions.
  9. The RSPB reserves the right to update the Rules and these Terms and Conditions from time to time and any updated version will be effective as soon as it is published here on the RSPB Loch of Strathbeg Blog [http://bit.ly/23I6arM] or at rspb.org.uk/lochofstrathbeg.
  10. The RSPB take your privacy very seriously; we will only use your personal information in accordance with the terms of RSPB’s Privacy Policy [see rspb.org.uk/help/privacy.aspx]. By submitting an entry, you acknowledge and agree that you have read and accept the terms of our Privacy Policy.
  11. All personal data provided will be held securely and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. Personal data supplied may be passed on to third parties only insofar as required for the fulfilment/delivery/arrangement of the prize.
  12. The winner may be required to participate in publicity related to the competition which may include the publication of their name and photograph in any media. You agree that your personal data may be used for this purpose.
  13. For the avoidance of doubt, by submitting your entry you guarantee that any and all persons featured in your entry have given you their express consent to be mentioned or their image used and in the case of vulnerable adults or persons under 18 years of age, you warrant that you have obtained express consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
  14. This competition is governed by English law and English Courts have exclusive jurisdiction.
