A week that start of with a period forecast to have 1 mile an hour winds blowing never really promised a big influx of juicy migrants and despite Waxings turning up in other parts of Aberdeenshire they haven't found their way here yet.
Our Goosewatch audiences have been treated to some good lifts as of late and even when we haven't been having a Goosewatch event we still enjoy the combine 'boom' as they take off and come over Starnafin.
There have been the odd Barnacle Goose in amongst the Pink-feet but not a huge amount and the Whooper Swan count has dropped from its peak of 400+. Greylag Geese are becoming more apparent too.
Other than that, Brambling have been around but not in huge numbers. Me, Iain and Andrew went to the Plantation this morning for quick look to see if the stronger winds this morning had brought anything other than sleet and hail and there was a flock of 7 or 8 Goldcrests working their way up and down the central path. Also there were a pair of Coal Tit and a Treecreeper were hanging around with them.
A quick trip to the Lagoon did produce a Little Grebe in the burn and a Long-tailed Duck was also in the calmer waters of the Lagoon.
The south end of the Loch does seem to be the place to see Slavonian Grebe with 3 hanging around all week while up in the northern end of the Loch 3 Great-crested Grebes were seen on Sunday and Monday.
On the Low Gound Lapwing numbers are increasing and c400 were counted the other day and 1 Ruff was still here on Monday.
Still Red A the White-tailed Eagle hasn't been seen for a while but he could be hiding in dunes undetected by the us.
A couple of times this week when I've been walking off the Low Ground I've heard Grey Wagtail flying over the Visitor Centre.
That's the last recent sightings blog from me as I'm returning to my native south next week so thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy reading the new recent sighting blog...when they decide who's going to do it!
