Now the holidays have started I get to stop spending so much time in the office and instead get to spend every Wednesday doing fun things like Pond Dipping and hunting for butterflies in the dunes. We generally encourage a few families to come along as well so it's not just us having all the fun!

Our Wild Kids events started today with a mammoth four hour pond dip, with a small break for a walk to Tower Pool Hide. A great group of kids found loads of fish, water scorpions, some very leggy tadpoles, a huge Great Diving Beetle larva and some sneaky caddis-fly larvae hiding in their stick and grass houses.

One of our visitors turned out to be an expert frog hunter and the number of tiny frogs and toadlets we found in the grass near the visitor centre suggest that our trips to Rattray earlier in the year to rescue frogspawn from the drying pools in the dune slacks hadn't been in vain!

We're running Wild Kids events every week throughout the holidays. Our shelter building session next week is already fully booked but all the other sessions have plenty of space- no need to book for those, just turn up on the day. You can find all the details on the events page of the Loch of Strathbeg website here- http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/l/lochofstrathbeg/events.aspx
