After two days of stress the wardening team have managed to install a new cattle grid on the entrance track to the airfield hides. Our existing one seemed to be too narrow and some of the graziers sheep have in a vain attempt to gain their freedom tried walking across it (a couple event succeeded before being caught and returned by the grazier!) so in order to prevent them from achieving this we have installed another grid to lengthen the crossing. We wait with baited breath to see how successsful this has been!

Elsewhere the white rumped sandpiper did its usual vanishing act - it was seen in flight again briefly late morning but could not be relocated - prehaps the oold myth about sand martins roosting in the mud over night is true for white rumps and they really do feed under the mud rather than on it!
