Well we had two days of nice weather so can't complain - except that i will as we are now wetter than we were after the last lot of heavy rain!
Bird wise it has been hard going at times as although we still have easterly winds non of the major binocular companies have spotted the niche in the market...windscreen wipers for binoculars! They would have been a godsend last week.
That said at the penultimate goosewatch of the season produced a single Bean Goose (first record for the reserve since 2007) and two "small" Canada Geese as well as a Greenland Whitefront in with the normal Pink Footed, Greylag and Barnacle Geese.
Elsewhere our resident eagle continued to put in a good performance and two bearded tits were seen and heard at Fen Hide.
Today will be a bird free zone though a despite it being quite calm and there is a temporary lull in the rain we have tree surgeons on site removing dutch elm disease infected trees around the car park. In true Strathbeg style there has already been a slight glitch in that the contractors did not bring their chipper up as we are using some of the materials to mulch our new hedgerows!
