The reserves year list creeps ever closer to the target of 200 - the latest addition has been glossy ibis on the pools in front of the visitor centre first thing this morning. This was the third record of this southern species for the reserve - the last ones being in 1986 and 1902 (both slightly before my time on the reserve!). Unfortunately by the time the rest of the team arrived the bird had vanished. It was relocated about half a mile west of the reserve where it has been happily feeding all day so I am hoping that it will re-appear on site and can then see it on site!
Other highlights today included our first winter thrushes of the year - at least 20 redwing have flown over during the day so far.
