We have really got in the Christmas spirit here at Vane farm and the cafe now looks like a winter wonderland with tinsel and stars. After my optimism last week, in request for a sea eagle, we were rewarded with our annual visitor. Though as usual I didn't see the sea eagle today, it was seen on the small island in front of the first hide by one of our keen visitors. The fog was so thick at Vane today that you could barely see the Carden hide from the visitor centre.
The usual variety of ducks were in large numbers today, in the bay, though after searching for the green winged teal I was unable to find it. On the flood there were alot of whooper swans along with a few lapwing. The highlight of my day has been watching the now regular flocks of long tailed tits, they descend on the feeders out of no where and then fly off- with their "spoon like" appearance.
Well, after last weeks success of my wish for the sea eagle I wonder what rare birds I can wish for this week? (more sea eagles perhaps). To find out what's here next Saturday check the vane farm blog for all the recent news from the reserve!
