What could be better than a crisp, clear, wintery morning at Vane Farm? A crisp, clear, wintery morning at Vane Farm with over 7500 pink-footed geese all over our new wetland.
The flood was choc-a-block with geese, as they swam in the newly shaped pools, plodded around in the mud jostling for position and munched the fresh shoots of grass. It's seems the newly restored wetland suits them well. There's another goose count for the loch on Monday morning, so i'll update you on current numbers early next week.
It's beginning to feel very wintery this week, as more birds are arriving at Loch Leven for their winter holidays. Some of the holidaymakers seen on this weeks WeBS include - a Slavonian grebe at Grahamstone, 82 goosander and 529 whoopers over the whole loch. Tufted duck, pochard and coot numbers remain high. We had a few shelduck in Vane Bay, along with 600 teal, 26 wigeon and 36 goldeneye.
