Weekly Chat, Sunday February 14, 2010

Oh my, another week.   How many rosettes did Tweed win at the agility contest? Check Patriciat's late post on last week's blog to find out!  Congratulations Tweed and Patriciat!

  • Auntie: Cant imagine -20. +4 is cold enough for me.

Here is a screenshot of the Rome peregrine where it is somewhat warmer. Apologies for the camera quality:

  • Afternoon all - bitterly cold but sunny here - after an unexpected 2 inches of snow overnight :((

Thanks for the peregrine pic Alan - I was watching the Deby cathedral ones a couple of days ago and took this screenshot of prey being eaten

Thanks to everyone for pics/ chat/ info

    Take care all!

  • Hallo again: I've never had flying dreams - wonder what that's all about......   Just checked the BBC's Lincoln Cathedral peregrine cam and they apparently don't come online (it's a still cam) until mid-May.

Alan: My OH hates shopping for clothes - he's in and out in five minutes and buys four of everything while I'm still perusing the options. Must be a heat haze that's responsible for the hazy Rome photo. :-)

OG: Funny story about your m-in-l and being able to ride a bike 3 months after her gyn op!  Wonder what hitherto hidden skill my daughter will discover. Medical advances are amazing aren't they?  :-)))  Didn't know pigeons drank differently (with their pinkies in the air?).  I'll have to watch ours if I get the chance.   If your pink shade works, go for it (just hope all the other sparkly new bits suddenly don't make it look "old" - you know how that goes!)

Auntie:  Nice to see you and have a cozy Sunday at home. Have you been watching the curling competition on the Olympics? Lots of hearty Scandinavian-looking ladies who look very much at home on the ice.

Better get moving - take care all. Back later - and omg - it's Saturday again.

  • Thanks for all the links everyone. While we're on cathedral peregrines, I paid a visit to Chichester yesterday to find "someone" inspecting the nest turret.......yes, spring is in the air.

Tiger - thanks especially for pointing out the pics of frosty New York on the Pale Male site - fabulous.

Alan - hope Hamish is doing OK and that you get good news next week.

  • Thanks SueC.

This is from the Carolina raptor centre:

  • Still both lethargic – and I have a sore throat – yukk, thought I had escaped my annual tracheaitis this winter – and it usually lasts six weeks – can’t be ill in spring!!!  Drinking gallons to fight it – trouble is, I want to eat too – preferably nice, smooth slide-down-easily chocolate!

Alan, Dibnlib and Sue C – nice Peregrine shots. And Alan again – lovely shot of Eagle chick in Carolina – is the white stuff snow or sunlight?

Annette – checked my memory on web – and yes, Pigeons do different: Pigeons suck up water by using their beaks like straws. This is different from most birds. Most birds take sips of water and then throw their heads back to let the water trickle down their throats.  Additional advice from American Racing Pigeon Union: since Pigeons drink by suction, any water container should be at least 1 in. (2.5 cm) deep.

Where is everyone today?  Are they waiting for the new week to start tomorrow?

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Annette – was it you who asked about crocuses the other day?  Try this link on here: click “Forums” above, then “Community central”, then “The Tea Rooms” at the bottom of list, then see "Spring comes to my new greenhouse" (currently third one down).

  • Sadly Sassy passed away before sunrise today.

Sad but prob inevitable - the two in the other nest look pretty good.
