Weekly Chat, Sunday February 14, 2010

Oh my, another week.   How many rosettes did Tweed win at the agility contest? Check Patriciat's late post on last week's blog to find out!  Congratulations Tweed and Patriciat!

  • Hello everyone.

Annette:  Glad you found the Parliamo Glasgow videos.  It's quite hard for me to describe exactly what Stanley Baxter sounds like.  The best I can do is: a toned down Glasgow acccent with very good diction.  Although you'd really have to hear for yourself.  A crabbit wean could be described as a feisty baby.  However, the word "wean" can be used to describe a child of any age where the term "minor" or "Juvinile" would be appropriate.  But in the context a feisty baby could be described as a "crabbit wean".  Really hope they get the server problem fixed.

    Alan:
That is a wonderful orchid picture.  Thanks for posting.  What a wonderful eagle story.  Inspirational.

Lindybird:  Starlings bathing are hillarious.  I love watching them from the kitchen window.  A great bonus is when a woodpigeon, perches on the edge of the bath and has a quick shower.

Diane:  That's fantastic news about the success of breeding ospreys, in Indiana.  Lovely story.  I'll have a look at the link later.

patriciat:  Glad the pacemaker installation went well for your sister, and I hope she gets home soon.  That's a brilliant photo of Tweed.  He deserves all the praise he gets.

OG:  Good to hear your OH is on the mend.  It's encouraging that he ate a normal dinner.

    All the best to everyone.

  • Just trying to catch up on the last couple of days postings. I won't try and comment on them all, but have so enjoyed reading them. would just like to say to Patriciat,  I am so glad your sister's pacemaker has been fitted. I am sure she must feel so relieved it is now all over. I love the photograph of Tweed.   Annette,  that must have been a fantastic sight to see all those dolphins in their chorus line.   Margobird,  hope the antibiotics start working soon and you begin to feel an improvement.   Alan, sorry to hear about Hamish's problems. I truly hope there is nothing to worry about.  Thanks for your picture and leads.   OG, hope your husband will soon feel fine again.

It looks from the forecast that there is plenty of snow today / tomorrow in various parts of the country, So do keep safe and warm.

  • Diane, that’s wonderful news about the eagles, I also spotted otters and peregrine doing well there, as well as ospreys.

Patriciat, Tweed is definitely very handsome, and even more so when he’s flying around that course looking as if he’s loving every second.

Alan, hope Hamish gets on ok, loved that eagle story.

All – just to let you know that my computer is going in to hospital to have its sound card sorted out.  I hope that’s what it is, I suddenly stopped getting sound and all the volume controls are not at zero and there are no ticks in any mute buttons. Don’t know what else to check. Anyway, that means I shall be missing for a few days. If anyone wants an answer to anything you can use my page, otherwise I might need one of Diane’s excellent summaries! (Only joking...). Don't know if I can go without you all now (sob).

  • Hi.

Just popped in to say good night.  I'll be going to roost, soon.

TerryM:  Sorry to hear your computer has to go into hospital.  Hope the sound situation gets sorted soon.

    All the best to everyone.

  • Here's a much better link for the eagle/osprey report that I talked about earlier today. This is the PDF file, so you can see the pictures. Much more attractive and interesting -- should have posted this one originally.  https://secure.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/files/fw-09WildlifeDiversityReport.pdf   Check out the osprey picture and chicks. Thanks for all your kind comments.

TerryM: I wish your computer a speedy recovery. We"ll miss you. :-) I'll give you a summary when you return. LOL

  • Evening all: Been busy - got our chimney cleaned out today and a spark arrester installed (to prevent sparks from burning up our roof and the rest of the neighborhood), sorted through some clothes, went for nice walk along the bluffs, and have been re-organizing "my" room/office for the last couple of hours while watching the Olympics. Dazzling young Japanese ice skater performing to Jimmy Hendrix.

Lindybird: I shall try to follow your OH's example: fewer carbs (though I could live on good wholewheat bread and butter); I've already cut back on the chocolate!  :-(

Patriciat: So glad your sister has her pacemaker - bet you're all relieved. Tweed looks like a very happy contestant.

OG: My OH has had periods of dizziness and it's caused by tiny crystal-like particles that settle in his ears; he has to do exercises to get them moving again. When they really bother him, he takes anti-seasickness pills that seem to help.

TerryM: Good luck with the computer.  My computer couldn't connect via wireless with my printer for ages and I had to use a USB cable. I tried it again yesterday and lo and behold, the wireless connection kicked in. No idea what I did (or didn't) do. Hurry back!

Take care all; off to bed once I see who wins the figure skating competition.

  • Good morning – minus 2 but already rising and a minute sprinkling of white stuff overnight – no depth to it, and not even all over, but definitely something which has fallen from the sky, not just ground frost.  Sun appearing right now.

Terry – sorry about your computer – I hope it won’t be long before we hear about your next two pieces of chocolate orange!

Annette – I think OH’s dizziness was just his man flu (=cold) affecting his balance in his ears – he slept really well and is fine this morning – just sneezing, but that not so frequent.  Actually, frequent sneezing can make you dizzy – less oxygen reaching the brain – anyway, nothing chronic.

Just took phone call – door fitters on their way. These are house front and back doors and back door of garage – front roller for garage has been delayed at the factory down south.

That was all about 8:45 am.  Tried to refresh page before copying from word in case there were others to reply to and now can’t get onto it at all!  Now 9:24 am Very frustrating.

Now 11:18 - got page, hope it posts!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Mornin Day, all.

Alan: That was a wonderful eagle story. Thank you! Best wishes to you and Hamish today.   Patriciat: So glad that your sister got her procedure completed. That was such a wonderful picture of Tweed. What a good doggie.    OG: Good luck with the door fitters. What do your daughter and son-in-law do in conservation? (Don't answer if it would disclose to much information over the internet.)    Margobird: I do hope the antibiotics are working!   Tish: Good to hear from you!!!

Annette: Bless your little heart, I think you stay in constant motion. I always have to chuckle over your daily schedule. What a very moving experience watching the parade and chorus line of the dolphins!!! Such a magical moment for you. I'm so glad that you got to see them.

Lindybird: Hope your OH is feeling much better. I think that when Britain hosts the Olympics, the opening ceremony should begin with a giant re-creation of Stonehenge surrounded by dancing Druids. ;-)

  • Thanks, Diane,  OH is recovering now, & went down to the Allotment today to look at his vegetables growing. I think it must be something which is 'about' as have heard of several other people who felt a bit grey & dizzy, too. Think you have the right idea about Annette:  she seems to be an example of a Perpetual Motion Machine; maybe we should contact some scientist about this...  Loved your Olympics suggestion.

patriciat:   Good news that your sister is now recovering, & hoping to go home soon.  Thanks for posting the great pic of Tweed-  he looks as if he is enjoying himself enormously.

TerryM:   How you will miss being online!  I would.  Hope your 'poorly' computer can be fixed & back with you soon.  At least you will not miss the ospreys return, & we have all that to look forward too, soon.

Margobird:   Hope to hear later that you are on your way to recovery.  I had to give up trying to get on here, this morning, as it would not load at all, so we still have the gremlins.

After seeing Tweed's action picture, I thought you might lke to see what a very WET dog looks like, when he jumps out of a lake!!   This is Buzz, who just loves to swim, & dive in for sticks.
