Weekly Chat, Sunday February 14, 2010

Oh my, another week.   How many rosettes did Tweed win at the agility contest? Check Patriciat's late post on last week's blog to find out!  Congratulations Tweed and Patriciat!

  • Good afternoon Alan sorry to hear about Hamish, hope all goes well.

Feeling a bit better but I am sure I would feel a lot better if I could catch a glimpse of that golden orb, it has not stopped raining all morning and still continuing.

    Have a good afternoon.

  • Alicat – thanks for news of owlet.

Dibnlib – thanks for flapjack recipe – will give it a try.  Oh dear, snow – thought that had all finished!

Heron – pleased you are no longer crabbit – but maybe they just said that because you didn’t sleep very much!!

Alan – hope all goes well for Hamish and his biopsy – will be thinking of him, and you.

Cancelled our afternoon appointments – OH feels dizzy, so I said he wasn’t going to drive me and my car anywhere, and sent him to bed – sorry to say it, but man with a cold … …

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good afternoon original goldfinch sorry OH not well.  It must be man flu - sorry to all the gents on the forum just joking.

  • Hi everyone.

Had lunch, and took a wee look at the shrub just outside the kitchen window.  Three blue tits bouncing about, looking for insects.  Brilliantly vibrant colours.

Alan:  Glad you liked the free dinners story.  It must be heriditory because I was also told that my paternal grandfather, wrote in piece about what you done during the summer holiday: "The rain was very wet."  The teacher's reply: "did you expect the rain to be dry?"  Sorry to hear about hamish having a growth.  Hope everything goes well with the removal and he makes a fully recovery.  Great news about Lady P and you seeing the two buzzards.  Fantastic peregrine picture.  :-)

Margobird:  I know exactly what you mean about not being able to let the birds go without.  The pair of pied wagtails sound just like our starlings.  Mad as bag of broken biscuits and hard as nails.  Keep well wrapped up, the birds would expect it.  :-)

OG:  I'm sort of laid back, these days.  I guess I must've got crabbited out at some point in my teens.  I'm more prone to the odd occassion of grumpiness these days, which I've heared some folk reckon is a humourous trait.  Hope your OH gets better soon.  Man Flu is a terrible ailment and requires the full range of natural defences.  These are crabbitness, grumpiness, and even the occasional rant.

    All the best to everyone.

    Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Morning all:  The site - at least for me - went down yesterday late morning our time; then no luck at all until the wee hours your time. Frustrating; must be that problem with the "morning" server (as someone described it - forgot who).  Hope they're still working on it since it simply has to be fixed by mid-March at the latest, right?

Update on site: Just followed link to APOD, courtesy of TIger, then couldn't return to blog by hitting the Back arrow; then couldn't get on by going to "saved" link, but did get on via the "places you've visited" log that you can typically access on most browsers.

Lindybird: Hope OH feels better; it's certainly sounded like the weather for colds, etc.

Heron  From time to time, I've hit post and lost the connection, only to see that my oh-so-forgettable words actually showed up on the site. Again, do hope they get this sorted out soon.  But did Google "Parliamo Glasgow" and had a good laugh - it was the sketch where the girl brings the boyfriend home. But what does Stanley Baxter really sound like? Funny story about your Dad.  A "crabbit" wean - does that mean "feisty baby."?

Tiger: Those APOD shots are marvellous - now they've apparently installed a room (called "Tranquility") in the space station that has a bay window with a view of the earth.   I have (still rolled up) that wonderful composite of the earth from space - without clouds. So, so beautiful. Sometimes I wonder if we deserve it.

OG: Morning. Hmm. Wonder what vegetarian suet is made of.  Oh dear, "man with a cold." I know how that goes.  :-))   Yes, guys, - just joking and we do love you all!

dibnlib: Your bro sounds like a trooper - and is still taller than many full-term folks.  Thanks for the flapjack recipe - but they still sound like a breakfast food.  No special Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) here although we used to mark it at home by tossing pancakes. Here, every day is pancake day!! We have a restaurant chain called the International House of Pancakes.  I eat breakfast with daughter at a place called Ellen's near Solvang (a Danish village/tourist attraction) in the Santa Ynez Valley (settled by Danes). Anyway, that place does marvellous thin pancakes (not the fatter US kind) that I like to eat with powdered sugar and lemon juice. Yum!

Margobird: Hope the antibiotics will kick in soon. Drink lots of fluids!

Alan: Hope Hamish's growth is nothing serious - but oh - vet bills!! Before my daughter put her horse down, the bill reached $800 - then there was another $300 to have the carcass disposed of "nicely." (Guess who made a quick trip to the money machine).  Sounds like you and Lady P lunch out a lot - I'd like that.

Have to whiz off 'coz grandson is coming by for quick hallo  and, surprise! - bringing a load (or two) of laundry while he's off to his appointment.

Hallo to everyone who's posted - take care!

  • Just to cheer everyone up who is ill or feeling a bit fed up here is a picture of lady P s star orchid houseplant. Took this a few minutes ago:

  • Marvellous orchid Alan - great shot. Those plants are sooooo exotic.

  • Two more great pics, Alan.  Sorry to hear about Hamish, but you have a good vet there- best if its dealt with straightaway.  We shall all be thinking about you tomorrow, & then of course the wait for the results of the tests.
