Weekly Chat, Sunday February 14, 2010

Oh my, another week.   How many rosettes did Tweed win at the agility contest? Check Patriciat's late post on last week's blog to find out!  Congratulations Tweed and Patriciat!

  • Hi everyone.  Happy New Week to all.

Can't believe over six hours have flown by since I last posted.  MInd you I can't believe we're about halfway through February already.  Of course that means we're that bit closer to the return of the LG ospreys.  :)

Annette:  Thanks for getting us kicked off in another weekly thread.  Hope you and OH enjoyed brunch.

Alan:  Brilliant GHO picture.  Thanks for posting.

OG:  You're right, it is quiet here this evening.  Can't believe I've just got four posts to catch up on in the old thread plus the start of the new one. These days it's normally four pages.

patriciat:  Sorry to hear Hilary's pacemaker won't be inserted before Tuesday.  No wonder she's frustrated.  Great news about Tweed winning 4 rosettes in the agility competition.  You must be really proud of him.

All the best everyone.  Here's a picture of some house sparrows.

    Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Hey Paul.  Funny - they look just like our house sparrows!

  • Dreich, drippy, dreary Sunday – but loads of birds, including Song Thrush who is quite a rare visitor.

Patriciat – so sorry that your Sister is having to wait in hospital for the pacemaker – understand her frustration and anxiety, and your concern.  Congratulations to Tweed - and you! – for the agility rosettes – well done!

Annette – sounds like you and OH had a much-deserved chill-out Saturday!  Thanks for starting the new week for us again.  We have “signed off” and paid balance on wet room project at last – with no charge for parts or labour on remedial work and a discount for inconvenience caused!  Spoke to Dau#2 last evening – the one with boiler trouble – she has chosen which company will replace the boiler and do the heating pipe work.  Her F-i-L was there yesterday helping her OH sort out some other pipes – old house, twice extended, has redundant pipes left in the water system and leaking big-time under walls – sounds horrendous!

Paul – thanks for House Sparrow picture – ours are getting very chirpy now – spring is in the air.  There is a hedge opposite us which gets so full of House Sparrows that it sounds like the hedge is singing!

Next getting ready to go to church – back later.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Sunday all. Grayish morning here temp around -10C. Still quite in the cloud nine for that owl sighting :) This winter has been hard for owls: lot of snow, constant cold temps and the lack of mice and moles etc. There has been a lot of sightings of owls in the towns all over the country.

Patriciat: congrats to you and Tweed! I`m sure your sister`s pace maker installation goes well next week. It really can make a difference for her "energy level" and nowadays pacemakers are very small and light and they practically don`t effect ones every day life (negative way I mean). One should only avoid some heavy electric tools like chainsaws

    Paul: lovely sparrows, thanks

    Have a nice day everyone!

  • Morning all - the most beautiful spring-like morning here - the birds are singing, the bulbs are showing -makes one glad to be alive! Spring must be around the corner ... unless you see the weather forecast :))

Alan-  thanks for your pics ... I love watching the GHOs in their nest box.

The Barn Owl Trust have switched on their nestbox camera early this year because the pair of owls have been seen in the barn for a couple of weeks. The female has been roosting in the box several times and they have been seen mating. Hopefully it bodes well for a good season there. This is the link for anyone who is new & doesn't know: http://www.thewebbroadcastingcorporation.com/barnowlcam_nestcam.html - there is a barn cam too.

Thanks to everyone else for chat/links/pics etc

    Take care

  • Afternoon to all from TI,

    Happy Valentines day.

Paul : Thanks for the sparrow pics. We cant seem to get them in the garden but they are still around here.

Tweed : Congratulations on your rosettes and an extra well done from Hamish.

Annette : Looking at the stork webcams in Portugal and Germany, I know where I would rather be.

This morning Lady P & I went Huntingdon Garden & Leisure and had some lunch there. It was quite busy.

    Weather Overcast & Gloomy, dry , Temp 5.6c , Sunrise 07:18 , Sunset 17:11

  • Hilton head osprey on cam at the moment:

  • Those Osps look like they have a very individual "hair" stylist!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • ALAN AND PAUL    thank you both for the great photos

PATRICIAT   4 rosettes wow!  very .well done to both of you. sorry to hear about your sister. best wishes to her for her stay in hospital.

rugby jutst about to start (england v italy) OH will be glued to our new LCD TV. We go digital later this year so it was either a digibox or a new TV. and this is much slimmer than the old analogue TV. We have advertised  the old one but doubt it will sell because of the change over. the good news is that the fire surround sold in  the morning it was advertised and the lady was thrilled with it.
