Weekly Chat, Sunday February 7, 2010

Happy new week folks!  Don't foget to check the last few posts of the previous week. Heron posted a photo of a female reed bunting,  AQ saw a "ginormous flock of corellas" (must Google that!),  OG has found a nice B&B for her trip, Alan posted a nifty shot of the changing of the guard at the eagle nest, folks are wondering how Diane is doing with the storm the big storm back  East, and much, much more!  :-)  We had almost 2 inches of rain in Santa Barbara today, which is brilliant.  Still sorting files and likely to be doing so for a day or three to come.  Take care all.

  • Morning Hilary H so glad you enjoyed Ailsa.  Baby rhinos are gorgeous and I love it when she is bouncing round.  So funny last Thursday when they let them both out in the larger enclosure.  Aisla was tearing around with Dorothy trying to keep up with her.

Hope EJ and Odin don't have the sort of weather that eagles have.  When I saw Alan's capture shot of the female I felt so worried but she has gone ahead and laid her third egg now and what beautiful birds theyare.

    Have a good day.

  • Good morning Alan and thanks for the capture shots of the eagle.  I didn't have PC on yesterday and was almost too worried to look this morning.  I couldn't believe it when I saw your shot of her covered in snow.  Just hope and pray the eggs are OK although I see it was a better day on Sunday.

Thanks too for the link to the Youtube video of the osprey chick being fed.  You tend to forget how small they are when they first hatch.  Hopefully we will be watching the same from LG in the not too distant future.

    Have a good day.

  • Good morning original goldfinchand sorry you are feeling unwell.  My  OH went down with a terrible cold and cough last Friday and felt pretty awful all weekend.  He has gone to work today but i would not be surprised if he comes home again.  Hope you will feel a bit better soon.

Just catching up with things as wasn't on yesterday, partly because I was so worried about the eagles in all that snow.  I was watching on Friday evening when the snow started and then saw Alan's shot of her absolutely covered in the white stuff.  She has laid another egg and it appears the weather is a bit better but now but I wonder whether it will mean that the eggs might not hatch, would be tragic if they don't.  Glad you are an Ailsa fan too.  I just love wathing them both.  I have Lily bear cam on at the moment and the cub is quite vocal this morning.

Take it easy and look after yourself.

  • AQ : Great photos thanks for them.

Also liked the guitar playing finches. Reminded me of a group called the Birds.

Weather is diabolical here on TI and that round yellow thing has disappeared again seemingly pemanently.

Too much else to comment on so I will just thank everyone for the chat, news and clips.

Not sure what sort of missions are in store for me today so I will just see what evolves.

  • Good morning Diane and so pleased to hear you are OK and the snow is not as bad as in other places.  Love your description of the ice wind chimes.  Keep warm and safe.

  • Good morning Gary and pleased you are safe after that terrible explosion.  Was watching the coverage on the news yesterday afternoon.

Hope you don't get too much snow but take care won't you.

  • Morning All, this morning started with sleet and colder wind. Now it is big flakes of snow but it is melting as it touches the ground

Carrann, thank you for your B. wishes. Loved the video, but I was surprised that the birds didn't seem bothered by the loud sound they were producing. If I am ever trying to get a photograph of a bird, just a very low sound can spook them. Your family wedding sounded a really enjoyable day.

AQ, Thanks for those lovely pictures of the honeyeaters. Your patience was rewarded at last, when they decided to use your birdbath. I hope your OH's tradition of making your own Birthday cake doesn't ever catch on here but as Linda says, it was obviously made 'with love '.

Diane,  Sounds as if you have had big problems, as you are waiting for repairman for furnace ?

It is still snowing and dark and gloomy. We need the house lights on!
