Dyfi are going to have a nest mic this season : https://www.facebook.com/dyfiospreyproject?ref=ts&fref=ts
Maybe they should put up a new nest in a good area as it would be snapped up. I know not as easy as it sounds ;)
So interesting the young Ospreys that have been identified there.
There were two nests at Dyfi in 2011. Monty wanted to use the new nest but Nora chose the old one. Guess whose view prevailed?

LOL as it should be :)

Yes I remember Monty wanting the new nest and Nora chose the old nest. Good for her.
What was amazing in 2011 Monty took fish to both nests to feed the chicks and what a good dad. Leri liked her food on the old nest. What a good dad he was and he stayed a long time after Nora migrated and then last year again the same with Ceulan. I think it was at least a month but a long time. Monty is a star.
Curious as I am not sure how much the distance is but could the other be occupied. Maybe Monty will have something to say about that :)
They all now must be thinkingabout their North bound journey home and wish them all a safe journey home! They had such a rotten year last year with all the rain and floods.
Well Dyfi put in the foundations to the new observatory on Monday. It will be quite a rush to get it finished in time.
TIGER - Do you think Dyfi were a little late starting this. Could the building of the observatory be a factor in any way of startling the Ospreys when they first return.
Remember White 03/08 returned 24 March last season.
When I have gone up to LG very early in the first week of return Richard is very conscious of the fact that he wants no disturbance of the birds especially in the first few days and weeks as they settle back in. Even during caper watch he will not open the shutters until daylight approaches for fear of startling them.
Last year when BJ and myself visited Caper Watch (April 2) - we opened the shutters and off went EJ and we never saw her for a few days. BJ has that lovely silhouette picture of them in the tree as we opened up.

It does seem a bit optimistic to me but I guess they know what they are doing. I suppose that starting earlier would carry its own risks.
What can you say and lost all interest in Dyfi now. I hope if finished and worse if not, will it spook the Ospreys either way. They come home and see this. I thought hides were to be hides or have I got the basics wrong?
I think that all the risks would have been thought through. If I was spending the sums of money being committed to the new observatory then I would want to be sure that the birds were not spooked. Mind you a train goes through many times a day and they seem to tolerate that ok.
Maybe ospreys are much tolerant than we imagine.
I guess that we will soon find out.
