    "24/08 17:09  SOMERSET & BRISTOL : Osprey, Shapwick Heath NNR  [S]

    one at

    Noah's Lake mid-afternoon"

I looked up the location on Google maps and it is certainly close to the points mentioned.

  • Migration counts at Nabben, Falsterbo in Sweden:

    25th August : 1 osprey

  • Loch Garten Osprey Centre:

    25th August, 16:10: 1 Osprey.

Having travelled 600 miles and arrived at LG 36 hours after Breagh left, was a little disappointed, albeit knew I was cutting it fine.  Went back this afternoon just to buy some binoculars.  First time of using was adjusting focus on the empty nest when I noticed a large bird in my periphery vision... an Osprey!  Perched at 16:10 for about 10 mins on an adjacent tree.  Not ringed, so not a local, but a rather unexpected nice surprise all the same.

  • An unringed bird on Odin's favourite tree?  What did the staff say about this bird?

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Clare.  They thought it was probably a young male (not juvenile) and could have been migrating from Norway and spotted the nest.  It may not have had a mate this season so came down to see if there was still a female around.  Apparently something similar happened a couple of years ago and that Osprey stayed in the area for a few days.

  • French migration watchpoints:

    Col d'Organbidexka

    24th August : 3 ospreys

    Barrage de Serves

    25th August : 1 osprey

Thanks, Gavin.  Not Odin coming back to check, then!!
