Very interesting. There seems to be more and more and more of them. Is that because there are more or are people just looking and recording better?
Tiger Signature
Alan,Tiger,Shane. I was at Arlington at 0830 this morning when an Osprey caught a fish. As we were leaving at 0930 either it or another bird... unable to distinguish...flew round and made several attempts to catch, perched on a pontoon in the middle of the reservoir briefly , before flying off. Will link the SOS post later today when it has been published.
"
Osprey seen at 08.20. Caught a fish before flying off N. At a previous attempt the bird caught what seemed to be a large fish but lost it due to harrasment by a Cormorant and possibly its size. An hour later either it or a second bird returned and made several attempts to catch before giving up and heading off northwards again. This individual actually perched on a corner post of the pontoon in the middle of the water for a brief while. Weather was dull with a light drizzle and it was not possible to distinguish any identifying features on the two sightings. Having caught a good sized fish and gone off presumably to eat it I thought it strange for the same bird, if indeed it was, to return so soon. Whatever, it, or they, made six birders very happy on a dull morning.
Mike that was great that you got to see an Osprey fishing, and get another sighting too, its an amazing feeling to watch an Osprey lift itself out of the water, to see it for real is very very special.
