Interesting: didn't one of the Rutland sub-adults spend time there last summer?

Rachel, we certainly get Ospreys there both in Spring and Autumn. I have to say I can't recall ever actually seeing a positive ID on a Rutland bird or indeed any other tagged/ringed bird. Nigel, who reported this one, is a top class birder and if, for example, there had been any sort of ring I'm sure he would have noted and mentioned it. I have e-mailed him to ask for a time in view of a bird seen in a previous report.

  • shane : Thanks for the Weir Wood sighting info. There have been very few in the Sussex  area so far this year. I expect the easterly winds are pushing them further west. Good luck with getting a photo today.

Alan. Nigel has just replied saying he saw his one at 11 45 so if the Chailey one was at 4.45 going North I would suggest these are two separate birds. Chailey 5 miles South of Weir Wood.

  • Mike : Thanks for that. I am expecting lots of arrivals and sightings in the next couple of days due to the lighter winds and the recent sightings at Pointe de Grave in France.

  • Just to enlarge on Rachels query I did send this page  http://www.weirwood.me.uk/photosearlier.html  from Weir Wood to Rutland last year just in case John could identify from the underwing pattern.

Sorry Posh Link box taking for ever!!.

Mims, I found this link to a good photo of White YA under the netting. I think his eyesight is fine, the herbert found the only gap in the netting, between the upright fence and the pond. It's been fixed now.

Click on the photo to enlarge it, and then use the link for "View original image" at the bottom left of the photo.

THANK YOU LindyLou:-) Sorry for the late reply as not online every day. The way he looked on that photo cheered me up, little scamp:-)) Feel better re his eyesight now, following your explanation - good enough to get through that gap and take his chances. Lets hope he gets 'home' safely now and concentrate on catching fish that swim freely.

You're very welcome, saves you more worry over the scamp :-)  On another forum I said  White YA looked positively smug about being where he was. Not sure the staff around the lake were too impressed, one occasion is an accident, two is debateable but three is just taking the proverbial. Be good to see him roll up at Kielder soon, assuming that is where he is headed again.

There was at least one occasion when he ended up caught in the net.

It is worth trawling through the recent images  here  to see what I mean.
