Rutland Osprey Team off to Africa next week
Patily, Manton Bay lies roughly east to west and is a large expanse of effectively open water. The ripples you see are just an indication of a light breeze over the water coming from the south west....or thereabouts. Last week it was much more disturbed with 'White Horses' on the wave tops and I think one of the Blogs mentioned it looking like the North sea,
Birdies LG DU update.
Thanks MIKE I recognised the wind effect last week but wasn't sure about the ripples...so have learnt something new Thank you Will go and look and see if still the same
Yes Looks Lovely I expect the birds are grateful that the weather is calmer It is dry now too with gentle sunshine as Mrs sits patiently on the eggs nibbling at bedding
Patily, This map of the reservoir may help get an idea of the scale.
Manton Bay is in the bottom left hand corner and you will see the names of the hides which are often referred to in the Blogs.
Shallow Water and Waderscrape being those which look out on the the nest in the Bay.
Thanks MIKE
At the top of the map....sort of opposite the word Egleton there is a disabled symbol with "osprey" written beside it Do you know what that means?
SYL
Patily
It looks to me like the name of a hide with wheelchair access.

Another fine morning spent at Manton Bay. Just after I arrived at the Shallow Water hide. 5R flew off to the south west. There was an hour or so of peace and quiet then 5R returned and decided to set up an exclusion zone around the nest. Anything coming into this zone was subjected to aerial attack whether it be geese, swans, ducks or cormorants. This was still going on when I left about an hour later.
5R joins Mrs on the nest :
5R launches another attack from the dead poplar :
