Rutland Osprey Team off to Africa next week
In from work in Baku to fantastic news that 03/97 completes his 15th Spring migration. My earliest ever record of him returning in previous seasons was 19 March so this is two days earlier than ever.
Shiela FE - Yes he always likes to invite a passing through female on to his nest to share a fish supper and have a wee fling should she be willing - then after a day or two he bids them farewell on their way. Well his own partners have not been shy to have a fling either.
FANTASTIC NEWS
It's great isn't it Keith! I was overjoyed to read the news earlier. Quite what possessed him to turn up so early with the current weather in Europe I don't know, but it could be to his advantage now he's made it, and seemingly in very good condition. Of course it is also to the advantage of any passing females, who can encourage him to provide fish, then head off up north to their own nest sites!

LOL Keith! Just read a bit about Baku. It sounds an interesting place, and perhaps warmer than here.

Nice to learn a bit about 03's personality, KEITH :-)

Perhaps he's taking the Rut in Rutland a little too seriously.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
haha CLARE! Thanks for mentioning the LG cam in the blog, BTW.
Osprey on nest at manton Bay :
