Rutland Osprey Team off to Africa next week
Thanks to Tim for a very quick update!
ChloeB & Tiger's Osprey Data
00 (09) was one of the birds that intruded at Dyfi last year. It seems clear now that intruding is an important part of osprey behaviour. Intruding one year can lead to being the resident osprey the next should a vacancy become available.
There is something about active nests that ospreys find irrestible.
Although intruding can cause problems in some years it may be very useful in having a potential successor ready.
9 (98) was a serial intruder at Site B, especially after he was duped into feeding 3 (97) s chicks by proxy in 2010. However when he got his own nest the intruding stopped.

Ringed bird on nest at Manton Bay right now. 00(09) again?
Osprey 5R holds a very important position in the osprey hierarchy. He is the first osprey hatched in England for 150 years to return. Then remarkably his sister returned a few weeks later.
In fact there were only three ospreys hatched in England in 2004 and all of them were seen again, although though one decided to go to Norway.

Interesting read on 5R Tiger - thanks. Having only joined the osprey forum in 2011 for me it is uplifting to read about young returning when so many dont make it.
TIGER - Well after 00/09 gets settled she will be seeking an opportunity around the area being an early returner.
If that opportunity does not come along then she can always have a quick trip to Dyfi to visit her half sister again and am sure that 03/98 will give her the welcome she gave her last year (Sisterly Love) and dad will be proud of his young daughters.
I think 00/09 may be a bird with the intent on breeding.
Her arrival back as a 3Y0 was early being seen at Rutland on 23 March.
A lovely picture of her on page 86 RW Book.
She will be very interesting.
Interesting times ahead Keith. Will 00(09) stay and be an persistent intruder, I hope not. You just do not know what will happen until we see all the returnees, I guess thats what makes it exciting you just never know what will happen.

Is anybody having trouble seeing the nest?
