Hi All. Don't forget to check last page or so of previous week for all the latest!  Granddaughter made excellent time to AZ - got there at 4 p.m. our time - an 8 hour ride with minimal (comparatively speaking) traffic through LA early this morning.  Thunder received hysterical greeting from Pepito, tiny noisy companion who wondered where Thunder had gone but was much too noisy and excitable to bring along.  Brought Oro home for successful visit after which I went on a hunt-and-scoop mission to clean up yard after two large dogs. Oh fun!  Daughter and I watched Wallace and Gromit DVD (the "were-rabbit" one) - a hoot. OH and I just remembered we have tickets for Charlie Rose (PBS interviewer) this evening so have to hose myself down, prop open my eyelids and try to stay awake for another few hours. Why do these things start at 8 p.m.?!

Thanks Alan for reminder re Phoebe (keep reminding us since I'm so busy running and fetching); four big storms due this week with threat of flooding, high winds,  power outages. Sounds like real weather!!  TerryM: Will pass on gerbil story to hamster!  Lindybird: All hankies put away now!  :-)  Congrats on the redecorating and dibnlib: I'm with you from now on - hire the folks who can do it in half the time (at four times the cost, yes, but....)

Off to comb hair and make self presentable. Have a nice Sunday all.

  • Morning Diane so sorry about your bad day, as someone else says things come in threes.  Glad you coud smile about it eventually.

I agree what has happened in Haita puts things in perspective and makes you realise that things could be a lot worse.  My heart goes out to all of them but especially the children, many of whom have been orphanes.  I get very near to tears when I watch the news reports.  It is going to take so many years for them to recover from nature's destruction.

Have a good day and take care.

  • Morning all from TI,

Thanks for all the clips, links beer adverts etc. Too numerous to mention but great reading & viewing.

This morning I went on a speed shopping mission and completed it successfully.

There is some doubt as to when the most depressing day of the year is but today must be a strong candidate. It is normally the 3rd monday in January according to one psychologist.

    Weather is wet and woeful,

    Overcast & Gloomy , Temps 6.5c , Wind SSE 9mph , Sunrise 07:56 , Sunset 16 :28.

  • Morning All.  Will not bore you with long stories today.  Its raining here, too as promised by the weathermen, but is at least a bit warmer for a couple of days.  Not sure of the temperature, Alan, don't have such reliable equipment as you have on TI.

Diane:   What a ghastly tale!  You must have felt like an Ancient Greek who had angered the Gods!   You should now console yourself that nothing that dramatic can happen to you again, for a long time. Hope the carpet has dried out & your 'war wounds' do not hurt too much.  At least you have a reliable plumber you can call.  Hope you have a quiet, uneventful weekend, now!

Annette:   Thanks for your concern- we suffered no ill effects except Husband felt a little sore in his leg & arm after, I think he took a worse dose than I.  We wondered what the voltage had been, too- but perhaps its just as well we don't.  We were just shaken up, & grateful to still be in one piece. Apparently its not true that lightning never strikes twice in one place: have read since about several people who have been struck more than once. We made light of it after, so as not to scare the children, but it definitely makes you value your life & realise that it can be taken from you in an instant. (I too have been brought to tears by the dreadful scenes of Haiti where survivors are already so poor that it has taken what little they have had, already).

Not to be too depressed, it's nearly the weekend again, already! - where on earth did this week go??

  • Have just watched and enjoyed the lovely Woodpecker video, Diane - what cute little babies. Someone has lovingly put that film together, with great music, too.

Liked the look of the appropriate beer, Tiger!

  • This is one way of keeping intruders off your territory:

  • Good afternoon all have been keeping up with the blog and the links although I haven't been posting. I hope everyone is getting over their various misshaps and are having a better end to the week. Tuesday was at doctors for annual check up and was told I had put on three pounds since last year but my checkup was before christmas last year so that is my excuse. I am also having problems getting certain types of bird food and even the RSPB internet shop doesn't have some of the food.  Yesterday took brother in law to chiropodist , he has sugar diabeates, and then had to go to Vane Farm to get bird food as I had run out.  OG my son works for Careers Scotland and Grantown High is one of the schools he visits normally on a weekly basis and at lunch time he says there are nice places to have a walk so your son is going to a lovely part of Scotland. There was a programme on TV last night about farming in USA and there was someone farming Bison and they say that because they are indigenous to the prarie they don't cause the same problems to the grasses that cattle do,and there was someone who had a portable hen coup that moved into the area that cattle had been moved from and by doing this they ate the bugs left by the cattle and stopped the spread of disease. Dibnib will have to try Clachnaharry Inn next time I visit son. Hope everyone has a pleasant weekend.

HEATHER B You  will know the place. It is the Clachnaharry Inn.    chef/proprietor is Davey Aspen who left Rocpool Reserve to buy into the pub and he is head chef there of course He was head hunted for Rocpool by Adrian Pieraccini who knew what he was doing. They haven't advertised the new ownership at Clachnaharry as they are waiting till the renovations are complete but as  said they want excellent well priced food to be their focus in future (don't know how italics happened) I had very good Stovies and Dave Sausages with wonderful onion gravy but there were much more exciting things on the menu. Let me know if you try it and what you think.  We are Culloden by the way and really enjoy eating out although I enjoy cooking as well. Rocpool restaurant and Cafe 1 are our favourites

, am on the case! Have eaten Davey's food when he was at RR so looking forward to doing so again! Sausages and mash also stovies appeal greatly to us, hubby is a very traditional eater ---

  • Margobird : I honestly cant remember where it came from. I found it when I was trawling through my saved photos today. I think it may be an American bird but not sure.

  • There was a song by the Who called Pictures of Lily. Well here is one:
