Hi All. Don't forget to check last page or so of previous week for all the latest! Granddaughter made excellent time to AZ - got there at 4 p.m. our time - an 8 hour ride with minimal (comparatively speaking) traffic through LA early this morning. Thunder received hysterical greeting from Pepito, tiny noisy companion who wondered where Thunder had gone but was much too noisy and excitable to bring along. Brought Oro home for successful visit after which I went on a hunt-and-scoop mission to clean up yard after two large dogs. Oh fun! Daughter and I watched Wallace and Gromit DVD (the "were-rabbit" one) - a hoot. OH and I just remembered we have tickets for Charlie Rose (PBS interviewer) this evening so have to hose myself down, prop open my eyelids and try to stay awake for another few hours. Why do these things start at 8 p.m.?!
Thanks Alan for reminder re Phoebe (keep reminding us since I'm so busy running and fetching); four big storms due this week with threat of flooding, high winds, power outages. Sounds like real weather!! TerryM: Will pass on gerbil story to hamster! Lindybird: All hankies put away now! :-) Congrats on the redecorating and dibnlib: I'm with you from now on - hire the folks who can do it in half the time (at four times the cost, yes, but....)
Off to comb hair and make self presentable. Have a nice Sunday all.
Hi Everyone.
Tiger: Oscar, He of the White Chest, is certainly a handsome fellow. Thanks for the pic.
tish: No wonder you were excited, I would be if I saw a sparrowhawk. Expect your usual birds all made a very swift exit.
Annette; You always sound as if you have a lot on your plate, these days. Do take good care of yourself as well as everybody else ;~ ) We were struck by lightening many years ago when walking in light drizzle, through a country Park. We each had golf umbrellas up, which must have attracted it, but there were no heavy clouds, just grey skies, & most scary of all, there was no thunder at all! - Just a huge CRACK! then I felt the electricity lift my hair, run down my arm from fingers to shoulder, then down my right side & leg. Almost but not quite dropped the umbrella in surprise & shock, but as I tried not to lose my footing, saw Husband beside me stagger, bend and shout out as he took a worse shock, I think (he is tall). We held onto each other & put our umbrellas down on the ground quickly in case it came back. The dog we had at the time was well ahead of us, & not hurt at all, but came back to investigate why we had stopped. We heard some more lightening farther away, & decided to walk back to the car without umbrellas up again! Went back home very sedately in car, then had very strong cup of tea as I realised that we had been a long way from any other person around, so if we had been felled to the ground & in a worse state, no-one might have found us for a very long time later, with perhaps serious consequences. As we had two boys who were only school age at the time, it was a sobering experience. There had been no warning & it was literally a bolt from the blue, as it were. We decided we had been saved by our rubber wellies, so we didn't 'earth'. (we were ok, just shaken up really, but scary to think what might have been).
Been to the cinema today to watch "Up & Away" with Gorgeous George Clooney. I'd watch anything with him in it. It was amusing, but also had a serious note to it, too. Had to collect some pills from the chemist after, so Friend & I treated ourselves to hot pot of tea and some cinnamon toast by a roaring fire in an old fashioned cafe. Yummy!
Tiger: Great picture of white chested Oscar.
OG : Nice shot of Super Odin.
Now its true that Oscar has a white chest and that Odin is a super osprey.
But.....which is best?
There's only one way to find out.......
FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALAN Watched the transformer owl. Wow amazing. the 3 different aspects didn't even look like the same owl.
Went to a pub we haven't visited in a while. Thought we would have a lunch though the main draw of the pub has always been the beer and its situation. Anyway it has changed hands a few weeks ago and the chef/proprietor has worked on the Orient Express and a Michelin star restaurant. We had simple but delicious lunch and they have plans to make the main foccus of the pub its food, we will be back!!!!!
Nah Alan that is not likely to happen. They live 2650 miles apart even in the breeding season.

Lily is active. Chat says over 7000 viewers.
Thanks Alan. I saw her move and scratch. I thought at one moment she had gone elsewhere to have her cubs when she stayed out of shot.
Lily is sleeping again, now. Expect that's what she does for most of the time.
Reading back over my last post, it sounds as if I'm worried about Annette being struck by lightening! but it was in reply to her query about my experience.
I promised ages ago to tell the tale of our free dinner.
It started with our ordering a takeaway pizza from an Italian restaurant in the town. If you order over the phone, & collect it yourself, its 40% cheaper than eating it on the premises. This sounded good, to two tired & hungry people, so we duly decided on a medium sized pizza we could share, & Husband collected it. I warmed the plates & poured the wine out, & he returned with a very smartly printed stout cardboard box; I was impressed. We started to cut it up & share it out, it looked good so we tucked in. After a couple of mouthfuls, I turned mine over- it was completely black! We salvaged a little of it, but left the rest in the box & next day he returned it to complain. They were very apologetic & gave him his money back, also asking for our phone number. Later, the Manager rang me & offered us a free meal anytime! I said we would book later. As it was Christmastime, we finally arranged to go back just before Christmas Eve, & turned up there on a cold & snowy night. It is a good quality restaurant & was packed with 'bright young things' from the professional offices in the town, having their Christmas treats & get togethers; some wearing their paper party hats & streamers, all very animated. Not many old 'uns like us really! It made for a nicely jolly atmosphere, & we started with lovely garlic bread, then had their special lasagne with salad. All very good, & washed down with wine which they would not let us pay for either! By the pudding stage, I was beginning to love the whole idea of this- Husband ordered a sinful chocolate fudgy thing, & I decided on a pear & almond tart with a splodge of Italian icecream on the side. It tasted even more divine than it sounds..... Then, as I tucked into this, there was a small amount of flapping & shrieking to the side of me, & a woman on the next table said to the waitress, "sorry, I've set fire to my menu!!" she had done something with the candle on her table.... soon, all was restored to normal, so I leaned over toward her, gestured to the fire alarms above us, & said "I'm sorry, but this is so good, I'm not leaving this pudding even if you set fire to the place!"
Altogether a very good night, & all for free, too!
Well, Wattle, stand by for some heat - we're sending yesterday's 40 C your way. It's "cooler" today, though overnight min was 28 and already 31 by 8.15 am. Diane - Hope you are feeling brighter and today is better. OG - I look at my watch and see Dau has been riding for hour & half. I know that she is old enough to know what to do but . . . And then they announce today is a Severe fire danger day in the Hills. I mustn't think about it. re Dyno man - Now if he turns up with his gang of ex-pyramid builders, how are you going to feed the thousands of slaves? LOL Alan - Thanks for all the links, though I'm still catching up on some.
Lindybird - What an event! Not just a great meal but a (fire) floor show as well. LOL
