This Topic has been set up to follow the Autumn 2012 migration and wintering of satellite tracked ospreys, other than Caledonia and Alba from Loch Garten, who are followed on this thread, Tracking Caledonia & Alba
This topic replaces Satellite Tracked Ospreys (non-LG) Mar-Aug 2012
N.B. There are still some missing details (and possibly birds) which I will add once the information becomes available.
Can't wait on the next update for Stan to see if he is still in the Cape Verde islands. There has been so many young birds this year making brilliant starts to their migrations.

Nah he will be on his way to Ascension or indeed South America.

The only sad thing is that if he stays there and never migrates, at least his signals will still come through. I wonder why the Ospreys don't tend to move back to mainland Africa and instead choose to live and breed on Cape Verde?
I never thought I would see another Belle in my lifetime
But I honestly think that Stan has beat her.
LMac if he does stay maybe Stan will be a first to come back to Scotland in 2 or 3 years time, and just over winter there. Wishful thinking I guess, he is more than likely to carry on to the African mainland now.

No Stan will come back to Scotland. The population on Cape Verde are different. You get the same thing in Florida with a mixture of migratory and non migratory ospreys. The migratory ones do not stop migrating just because there are non migratory ones around.
A word or warning. Stan will be exausted so let us see how he recovers. I guess he needs a nice fish breakfast.
Mary, Tiger posted a very interesting document yesterday about the number of breeding pairs of ospreys on Verde. They never leave and live all year round and somebody mentioned the breeding season starts in November, not sure juveniles will be that welcome at this time - we may never experience a Stan migration again, but here is hoping this little chap moves onto mainland Africa after a few weeks r&r and does come back one day. I have high hopes for some of our Scottish juveniles this year.
Posts crossed Tiger, now I understand, thank you

I do believe that the Cape Verde ospreys breed in November. That would not suit Stan.
I guess we are due to learn a lot more about Cape Verde ospreys.
Roy Dennis must be beside himself with joy.
I wonder if Roy will plan a trip if Stan stays there, that would be good TV is autumnwatch would sponsor
