  • No doggie, I had not seen it, today I have been dipping in and out, between other things. I am always appreciative of the 'heads up' as they say here, personally I think it is an odd expression. So do keep reminding me, it's OK.

We are showing Lucky as 'It is official, contact lost 7am, 10th' which is factual, without drawing any conclusion. So we will delete Lucky from the list soon, as even if he is OK, there will be no more moving signals, to report on. 09(98) will sadly be off the list as well, at the end of the month, say, to give time for people who are away on vacation, to see what has been happening.

  • JSB

''Heads Up''   ........... imagine yourself working on something , head down looking at what you are doing

and then, someone says something arresting to cause you to look up !  hence , 'heads up'.

  • jsb. I see your point in deleting the birds of course. Just a thought: is there any merit in retaining the register with simply a note saying contact lost on....in case, in the future, the bird re-appears. In the case of 09(98) it could record the death and location. I'm thinking that in the future someone is bound to ask for a summary of those that have been tracked and it might be helpful to have all the data in one place. I guess it would also provide a guide as to the success or otherwise of migration.

  • Mike, what about an appendix at the foot of the table, like 'Contact lost, missing, fatalities' with some details, as you suggest. I just wonder if those who would not prefer to be constantly reminded, would rather we did not have that. I could use a pale grey typeface, so the it was less obvious. Comments may indicate views on this option. In any event, the plan I had was to start a new thread for 2013 in January, but all the spreadsheets are on file on the RSPB server, so that records are retrievable. In addition you may have noted all my posts are tagged, so searching is easy. So next year if someone searched '09(98) satellite tracking'. It would work OK.

Try opening one of the old spreadsheets and you will get a snapshot of that day's, updates and history.

Cirrus: Thanks for the explanation, I wonder who coined the phrase.

  • It came from the States of course :)   JSB

Yes, a paler typeface would be appreciated - necessary information but not exactly smack in the face

  • I put Pale Grey in a cell to see what it looks like on ChloeB's webpage. Very pale is almost invisible!

  • JSB, Personally, I don't wish or need anything written paler. Good or bad, it is all part of our learning. You are doing a grand job. Thank you.
