moffer, thanks again.
BlueYD update
In the hope that this thread has a wider readership, than just the RSPB and other LG members I repeat Tim's request for help, in recovering 09(98)'s satellite tag, from the remote region in Morocco.
"Whatever the case, this is all desperately disappointing, especially as 09 was in the middle of such a superb migration. All we can hope is that the transmitter has dropped off and that we will be able to retrieve it. So, if you know anyone who may be able to help, please get in touch with me by email – timmackrill@rutlandwater.org.uk. I’ll post more news as soon as we have any."
More details.
09(98) signals show that of the last four shown below, the second last point is not exactly in the same place as the others. So what could be the explanation? Just the system is not that accurate? Or if it moved, then why move back to the same place as before. Also there were some, small movements before these dates.
Was 09(98) injured somehow?
We have had these 'rogue' movements before with the transmitter of Leri and also Swedish osprey 19153. No idea what could have happened to such an experienced osprey but it must have been something unusual.
I have just caught up with the sad news of 09(98) on FB I so hope it is his transmitter and that he is well, all we can do is wait to see if he returns next year unless definate news comes of his demise, I was so happy he made it back after the loss of AW and especially pleased he mated up with 5N and had his own family after so many years alone... just so sad now! :*(

I think that is most likely to have been natural death.

Alan: These 18 readings are 09(98)'s last fixes, so the suggestion of 'rogue' data is plausible. As in the longitude 10.01317 and 10.01333, gives a difference of 0.00015, as do the two latitude readings of 28.44617 and 28.44633. The last figure in the string is I guess altitude.
If you paste this 28.44617,-10.01333 into the Google Earth, 'fly to' box, you are taken to 09's last position, without any use of the tracking data. Note you have to put them in the order, latitude then longitude.
EDIT: 0.00015 of one degree latitude = 111.12Km x 0.00015 = 16.668 metres.
