This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.
She seems to prefer to roost on the islands ( a mere 400 miles off the coast ! ) and visits the mainland during the day. Daily exercise what .. 800 miles is nothing to an Ospery :)
Fingers crossed Alba is OK, but Cirrus, I think you've misread metres as miles; Alba's "commute" is about 4 km.
If the tracking data is in does that mean we are due an update blog, hopefully that will tell us, or is Cally an interim download. I have completely lost track of what we get when but it does shift to weekly soon does it not.

I've been looking for bird-watching sites in & around Seville & came up with THIS one which is the Spanish equivalent of the RSPB. They have a national site SEO/Birdlife & lots of local sites. I thought maybe some-one from Loch Garten or the Forum could do a blog to them telling them about Caledonia & her stay in the area, maybe with a photo & satellite link.
Best wishes

I feel that if anyone does this, it should be Richard Thaxton. The SEO (like the LPO) are the RSPB's partners in Birdlife International, so any communication ought to come from Richard as the manager of the tracking project.
You could email him the link - either on abernethy@rspb.org.uk or via a friendship request.
It's strange they've been having events in the Parque del Alamillo - one of Caledonia's haunts!
That's a good idea Sue C, I'll send him the link. They look a friendly group & if there is an Osprey on their doorstep they would love to know I'm sure. We at the LPO Charente maritime always appreciated knowing about Rothes.
Good to know Caledonia is still fine. As for Alba, there have been quite a few reports of transmission failures this year, so I am hoping that is the case with Alba. It's early days yet so am not worried but awaiting the next update with fingers crossed.
Mims I hope Alba is ok and we will probably here tomorrow but if LG go quiet I always get worried but staying posiitve and hope for good news.
No data downloads at all for either Cally or Alba - 5 days since Cally last update and 8 since Alba last moved.
