This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.
scylla I would love it if someone could spend their day with a camera there. I do wish she would move to join Alba though as her location does concern me a little due to its proximity to humans!
Alba very close to where 19153 was ranging earlier this year:
Good morning all and both Caledonia and Alba doing well. Caledonia seems to prefer the city life for now and must have found a source of food. Alba seems very settled in Senegal and probably enjoying the sun. Thanks to all for the maps.

Moffer, Scylla et al - Satellite data is downloaded whenever staff get the time. It is not a quick job - simply downloading the data takes an age before a vast list of co-ordinates lands on our screens. Jayne, Alice or our fab volunteer Jason then plough through this to pull out the relevant points, plotting them on the map and then uploading the whole thing onto Google Earth.
The osprey team here are every bit as anxious as you to find out where the birds are, both for our own piece of mind and so that we can continue our principle daily work of telling our visitors to the centre what is going on.
The office is closed at weekends (quite rightly!) so hopefully we'll get the next data on Monday or Tuesday.
To echo what Richard has already said, please be patient - we have to be here too.
Thank you

Mind you places like Dyfi have a different attitude.
Tiger Signature
OK TIGER, I'm chastened but still disappointed. Too great an expectation from modern techie stuff
Yes, Dyfi and Rutland (and SWT!) do us proud
I have been very pleased with Richard's recent Blogs - he really does know how to wirte them and they are always full of detail
What a memory you have TIGER. Gosh, that was last year! It doesn't seem that long ago.

ChloeB & Tiger's Osprey Data
There was a Google Earth update on Cally and Ally last night.
Caledonia - touring around Seville more, but still seems reluctant to leave the city.
Alba - still in the same area of the Saloum Delta
There are a couple of points from 14th Sept, but they don't show up in the screenshot as she seems to have started revisiting the same spots - perhaps finding a regular roost?
