This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.
Oh, just HOORAH and hello EVERYONE. Not long back from work and a huge sigh of relief from moi.
Good ole Alba - it looks a wonderful spot. And hey, if Caledonia wants a holiday in Spain, why not - there's plenty of time now that she is actually on the way and just maybe she knows a good fishing spot she spotted and decided to return to it to fill up before venturing across the Med .
Heart in mouth now for Ceulan.
hello cirrus and yes isnt it just a big sigh of relief. Im sure Ceulan will be ok but I will be relieved when its actually confirmed and when Caledonia has finished her adventure to Africa. In fact, I will be relieved when i see all three of them back in Scotland and I know that will be years from now :/
Now look where Blue XD spends his winters.
Interesting?

I wonder if Cally's checking out the area for a longer term stay? Since I learned that an increasing number of ospreys are wintering in southern Spain I've wondered if any of the LG birds have done this.
That doesn't mean I'm not impressed with Alba's amazing progress - isn't she great?
I'm so pleased you're happier today, Cirrus - my fingers are crossed for Ceulan as well!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Mmmmmm. Seems BlueXD has a perfectly excellent route to get him to where Alba is . At least it looks to be the same place .
I expect you think that's where EJ is TIGER . Sigh :)

How would EJ know where to find Blue XD? Blue XD may still be in Scotland.
Perhaps she paid him a visit as she departed Scotland and gave him a nod and a wink
I have thought the same Clare. maybe EJ is there even? I do wonder where EJ goes and Odin, Nora and Monty for that matter! Im glad you are happier tonight too Cirrus.
Now Im sending out especially good thoughts for young Ceulan and Caledonia
Ps I think B&B and a few others would call this a boomerang!
Been away, and just looked in to see how 'our girls' are doing, and sooo glad to see that they are doing just fine. Great news.
A boomerang SEAGULL ! mmmm Yes, I am feeling so relieved about the migration now
Hello LINDY . long time no see
