This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.
Thanks again for this information Sue C - its good to see that she is finding her way to places that are a bit cooler for her.
Here is a LINK to photographs of the Reservoir and surrounding areas.

Good news that she is still doing well - looks a nice spot on the reservoir
A lazy week for Caledonia (27th June - 3rd July) with just 4 points, close to her roost on the Guadalquivir.
Thank You for the update SueC, good to know she is still doing OK.
Though she has not been to the Gergal reservoir this week, I found this online. It appears to be a workbook for schoolkids visiting the reservoir.
Interesting that ospreys do appear on the list of Fauna. The fish mentioned are eels, black bass, carp, perch and barbel.
Fascinating SUE, thank you, as usual! Caledonia's taste must be widening from the brown trout that Odin used to bring in.

Great to hear she is doing well and doesnt have to travel too far for her food supply. I think she would prefer the brown trout somehow.
Caledonia update - on the Blog and also now on Google Earth:
Caledonia has been recorded over a 250 m stretch of the Rio Guadalquivir for the past week except at 13.00 hrs on 8 July she was on the Reservoir De Gergal 15.5 km NNW of the Rio site. She has visited this reservoir on a number of occasions recently and maybe it is a regular trip she makes between the 05.00, 13.00 and 21.00 hours data points.
SueC :Thanks for that. I notice Oighrig and Breagh have been added.
GE update - another lazy week for Caledonia.
The only time she was snapped away from her base was the middle point on the 12th, when she was travelling either towards, or away from, the closed-off river basin alongside Alamillo Park.
Alan - I will do a note to the techies about tracking. Currently Oighrig and Breagh's Routes are set to White like Alba's. I think we would want them displayed in different colours from any used before - maybe Sky Blue and Pink ?
Another question - the last time we were tracking LG offspring from different years (Rothes, Tore and Bynack in 2011-12), I set up a new thread to follow all of them. Do we want to do the same this time?
